Clarence Guenther

Clarence Guenther was born in Lanigan, SK, one of three children born to Ada and Albert Gunther. He began his 37 year SaskTel career in Wadena, where he met the love of his life, Joyce Larson. They were married on October 8, 1951 in Joyce's hometown of Fosston, SK and shortly after their marriage, moved to Yorkton, SK. They raised three children and spent 45 wonderful years together until Joyce's death in 1996. Many of their best memories were of summers spent at Emma and Greenwater Lakes with family and close friends, singing and drinking coffee around the campfire. Clarence married Gladys Vaughan on August 15, 1998. Together they travelled to the west coast, the east coast, Alaska, France, Germany, Italy, Branson and Disneyworld. They had a trip to China arranged but had to cancel when Clarence began to have mobility issues and was eventually diagnosed with Parkinsons disease. He enjoyed curling, fishing, golfing and baseball, playing with the Yorkton Red Sox and Cardinals in the 50's and 60's. Clarence was also a past member of the Archery Club. An avid volunteer, Clarence worked with the SaskTel Pioneers, the Yorkton Cubs and with Homecare Services installing Lifeline devices. Clarence is survived by his wife, Gladys Vaughan; his daughter, Noreen (Dennis) Kriger; his sons, Gordon (Helma) Guenther and Dean Guenther (Joan Kobylko); grandchildren, Lucas (Nora) Kriger, Tim (Amber) Kriger, Stephanie (Jeff) Bazley, Lindsay (Mike) Johnson, Melissa (Cory) Schultz, Katherine (Rio) Dawal and Greg Guenther; great-grandchildren, Morgan Kriger, Tristen Kriger, Chealsey Kriger, Courtney Kriger, Dennis Johnson, Levi Bazley, Colton Johnson, Landon Bazley and three more on the way; his brother, Bud Guenther; sister-in-law, Ethel Larson and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by step-daughters, Bonnie (Brian) Goranson, Gail (Garth) Smith and Debbie Vaughan (Bruce Ferguson); step-grandchildren, Krista Goranson, Marc Goranson, Melissa Smith, Karston Smith, Carter Smith, Courtney Smith, Evan Ferguson and Owen Ferguson. The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home for their care and support during Clarence's time there. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from First Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Rosluk officiating. The organist, Ruth McPhee, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "The Solid Rock", "In The Garden" and "In My Heart There Rings a Melody". The eulogy was given by Clarence's daughter, Noreen and words of tribute were shared by members of the Vaughan family. Special music was provided by the men's quartet of Sheldon Knoll, Rick Gibson, Kendall Buhler and Dennis Kriger. The Cremation Committal followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Clarence's Grandson, Greg Guenther serving as the urn bearer.
