May Isabelle (Reid) Glass, the third child of James and Rose (nee Bond) McInnes, was born on October 31, 1919 on the family farm, seven miles south of Yorkton. May passed away on December 6, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. May was united in marriage to Leonard Reid on March 28, 1941 in the Pebble Lake District of Saskatchewan. Leonard enlisted into the army on November 7, 1941 and was sent overseas in 1942. May worked on her parents' farm until Leonard returned home in 1945.They purchased their own land three miles north of Dunleath in 1946. May and Leonard worked side by side on the farm, she milked cows, ran the tractor or the combine - whatever was needed. Her daughters remember many sleigh rides to dances at Shamrock School and visiting the neighbours for evening card games. May's family was very important to her and she loved to cook for big family gatherings. They farmed together until Leonard's passing on January 15, 1970. May continued to live on the farm, but worked in Yorkton at the Husky Diner and later at the Metropolitan Lunch Counter. May married Bob Glass on June 8, 1974, they remained on the farm until 1994 when they retired to Yorkton. May and Bob were a very out-going couple, they loved to play cards and visit with their families and neighbours. They won many awards for their garden and yard. They received many prizes for their vegetables at the Horticulture Shows. May later became a judge, specializing in vegetables. May was always very active in her community, she served for 17 years as President of the Tonkin Unit of St. Andrew's United Church and she continued as an active member of the church even after she moved into Yorkton. She was also a member of the Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, receiving her 30 year pin and Certificate of Merit. May was a life-time member of the Yorkton Horticulture Society and the Saskatchewan Horticulture Society. May will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. There was a comment made by a staff member at Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats that when May became a resident there, "she was like a breath of fresh air, our own bit of sunshine". May had wit and wisdom and never feared sharing it with you. May's memory remained a wondrous thing right to the end. She could tell stories, tell dates, and reminisce about the residents of the Pebble Lake, Saltcoats, Dunleath and Rokeby districts. At 94 years of age, she had a wealth of history stored in that memory and it only took someone to ask a question of her and she recount all their family or district happenings. May was a living history book will be missed by many. A Service to Celebrate May's Life was held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Jen Dresser officiating. The organist, Shani Apland, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Part of the Family", "Church in the Wildwood" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand".
