Everett William Gerrard was born on November 30, 1925 in Beaverdale, SK, the son of William and Anne Gerrard. He grew up on the family farm near Springside. Everett attended Springside School through Grade 12 then went to the University of Saskatchewan, College of Engineering for 1 year. In 1944, he worked in an aircraft factory at Thunder Bay, ON. Everett returned to Saskatchewan in 1946 and attended Normal School in Saskatoon. After completing his education, Everett accepted his first teaching position at Arden Leigh (north of Lintlaw) in 1946 where he taught for 2 years. It was while he was teaching there that he crossed the road to the Chandler farm and met Marjorie. After courting for about a year, Everett and Marjorie married on June 26, 1948. For the next five years Everett taught in various schools and he and Marjorie spent summers in the Yukon working for a relative. In 1953 the couple returned to the Langley farm near Springside. Everett continued to teach as well as farm until 1964 when he began farming full time after they purchased a farm in the Orcadia area. In 1980, the farming duties were shared with his son, Wayne and then later, Douglas. Everett and Marjorie moved to Springside in 1992 where they remained until 2010 when they moved into Yorkton. Everett and Marjorie were blessed with five children - Wayne, Vivian, Valerie, Randy and Douglas. As well as being active with his children, Everett enjoyed woodworking, reading and visiting with family, neighbours and friends. Everett was active in the community serving on numerous committees and boards. Everett passed away peacefully on Sunday May 13, 2012 at Yorkton and District Nursing Home in Yorkton, SK. Everett was predeceased by his father, William in 1934; stepfather, Louis in 1969; mother, Anne in 1987; son, Donald in 1955 and son, Randy in 2011, the greatest sorrow in his life. Everett was loved very much and will be sorely missed and remembered by his loving wife, Marjorie; his children, Wayne (Kathy), Vivian, Valerie, Doug (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Joel, Jessilyn (Dan), Javin (Kendra), Amy, Rebecca (Fred), Laurie (Dennis), Terri (Todd), Kelly (Damien), Rebecca (Matt), and Travis; his great-grandchildren, Regan, Macy, Riley, Knox, Kruze, Breanna, Bailey, Brinley, Grady, Kayley, Kira, Donovan, Phoenix, Paris, Zoe and Kaleb as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from the Springside Town Hall in Springside, SK with Reverend Ruth McArthur officiating. Everett's son, Wayne Gerrard, shared words of tribute and eulogy in his father's memory. The organist, Arlene Fenske, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Rock of Ages" and "Amazing Grace". A private family cremation committal followed in the Springside Town Cemetery with Everett's grandson, Joel Gerrard serving as the urn bearer.
