FREDERICKSON - Leo Arthur Frederickson passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 12, 2013at the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy, Sk. He was 92 years of age. Leo was born on December 6, 1920, the son of Gertrude (nee Christofferson) and Arthur Frederickson of Theodore, Sk. When Leo was 14 months old, his mother passed away from Scarlett Fever. After losing his mother, Leo grew up with his grandparents. In 1929, at the age of nine years, Leo was stricken with polio which hindered his activities. Leo received all his education in Theodore graduating from Grade 12 in the community. When he was 22, Leo moved to Yorkton and worked at Thomas Jewellery from 1943-1961. There he became a Certified Watchmaker and a graduate Jeweller. In 1961, Leo opened his own business, Leo's Jewellery on Betts which he owned and operated until 1986. He was in the jewellery business for a total of 43 years. On October 30, 1940, Leo married the love of his life, Eva Owen and they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Joanne (Pederson) and Sandra (Maleschuk). Leo was involved with a number of Yorkton organizations included the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge #9 (for 64 years from 1945 - 2009), the United Commercial Travellers, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #77, New Horizon Senior Organization and the Parkland Fiddlers Music Association, of which Leo was the President from 1989 - 2009. Leo was also a member of the Saskatchewan Polka Kings dance orchestra from 1976-1992. Leo and Eva travelled to Prince Albert, Waskesiu, Kelowna (and other cities in British Columbia), Clear Lake, Riding Mountain Park, Madge Lake, Brandon and they camped at Good Spirit Lake with their daughters. Leo was a very patient, kind and loving person and he never took anything for granted. He will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. Leo was predeceased by his mother, Gertrude; his father, Arthur and sister, Gloria Baranesky. He is survived by his wife, Eva Eileen (nee Owen); his daughters, Joanne (Robert) Pederson of Regina, SK and Sandra (Eugene) Maleschuk of Kuroki, SK; his grandchildren, Eric (Linnéa) Pederson of Uppsala, Sweden; Brian (Jennifer) Maleschuk of Wadena, SK, Ellys (Cherie) Maleschuk of Langenburg, SK, Elyse (Curtis) Markowsky of Yorkton, SK; Great-Grandchildren, Robin Asplund Pederson of Uppsala, Sweden, Skyler, Landon, Rayna and Jackson Maleschuk of Wadena, SK, Austin, Ethan, Elyssa and Emalee Maleschuk of Langenburg, SK and Arianna Markowsky of Yorkton, SK; brothers, Glen (Mavis) of Regina, SK, Arnold (Irene) of Central Butte, SK; sisters, Mabel Hansen of Saskatoon, SK and Dorothy Leitie of Surrey, BC. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, November 18, 2013 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, Saskatchewan with Reverend Jen Dresser of St. Andrew's United Church officiating. The organist, Shani Apland led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "In The Garden" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee". Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Leo's grandchildren, Ellys Maleschuk and Elyse Markowsky. The Cremation Committal followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with grandson, Brian Maleschuk serving as the urn bearer.
