Roselind (Rose) Dudiak was born on February 5, 1941 in Estevan, SK to Michael and Pearl Konarski (nee Vidomski). Rose spent her first six years in Estevan with her brother, Robert and her three sisters, Elsie, Mary Ann and Marge before the family moved to Brandon, MB in 1947. Rose attended school in Brandon finishing grade 8 before the family made a bigger move in 1958 to the west coast town of Prince Rupert, BC. Rose finished her education and moved into the work force. She held various retail jobs before spending a number of years working at the Co-op Fisheries. If you ask her sisters, Rose knew how to enjoy herself. The girls liked going for long drives to near-by towns like Terrace and Kitimat often visiting the hot springs, having picnics on the beaches or fishing for Salmon in the Skeena River. Rose also loved fashion, especially shoes and jewellery, and going shopping for hours with her sister, Marge. She liked socializing and was known as the life of the party, dancing and singing the nights away. In fact, while taking a taxi home one night from a party Rose met Roman, the love of her life. They courted for a few years before marrying in 1964. Roman worked at the Pulp Mill and Rose became a homemaker. Rose and Roman were blessed with twins in 1973: a son, Dan and a daughter, Darlene. They were active members of the Prince Rupert Ukrainian Club and had many friends in the community. They enjoyed playing cards on weekends and watching the kids figure skate and play hockey. They loved their annual summer trips driving back to Saskatchewan to visit family in their motorhome. Rose became a Baba in March, 2004 when Darlene and her husband, Colin had their son, Logan. In 2005, Rose and Roman moved to Legal, AB to be closer to family. A year later their second grandchild, Ashleigh was born. The grandchildren brought such joy to Rose's life. She loved their visits and smiled from ear to ear every time she saw them. She wore the beaded bracelets they made for her and proudly displayed their drawings in her room at the lodge. The happiness the grandchildren gave Rose, helped her cope with the devastating loss of her husband, Roman in 2011. Rose was a strong, stubborn woman who survived two bouts of lung cancer until a third cancer finally took her life nine years later. She passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the Sturgeon Hospital in St. Albert, AB. Rose was predeceased by her father, Michael; sister, Elsie; mother, Pearl; brother, Robert and husband, Roman. Rose was loved very much and will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Darlene (Colin) Wood and Dan Dudiak; her grandchildren, Logan and Ashleigh Wood; her sisters, Mary Ann Radwansky and Marge Brenner, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Rose, we miss you dearly but take comfort knowing that you are enjoying everlasting life in the hands of God. Prayer Services were held on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was sung on Thursday, September 18, 2014 also from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK. Father Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiated at both services and the responses were led by Mr. Ed Pindus and members of the Yorkton Ukrainian Catholic Choir. The Cross Bearer was Sean Gordon and the Epistle Reader was Logan Wood. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Colin Wood, Patrick Dudiak, Greg Dudiak, Rob Dudiak, Rickie Pawliw and Travis Gordon serving as the casket bearers.
