Rosie Doroshenko passed away peacefully at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home on Monday, May 13, 2013 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. Rosie was born in the Buchanan district of Saskatchewan on April 18, 1922, the youngest child of Nykoli and Maria Bilan. She married John Doroshenko on November 20, 1941 and they began their life together in the Buchanan area. They moved to Bredenbury in 1956 and continued farming there until their retirement in 1989. In 1993, Rosie and John moved into Yorkton. Rosie worked alongside John, tending livestock, planting a huge vegetable garden and flower beds, hauling bales and anything else that needed to be done on the farm. Rosie was known for her awesome talent in stack building and never once did the bales she stacked fall over. Rosie loved cooking, canning and baking. No one ever left her home without a meal and there were always fresh baked cakes and desserts. Rosie and John also did quite a bit of travelling. They visited the Holy Land, Ukraine, Australia, New Zealand, the Maritimes, Alaska as well as some other countries. After moving to Yorkton in 1993, Rosie and John made more new friends. They loved to play cards and visit their neighbours. Rosie also enjoyed doing puzzles, crocheting and quilting. Following John's death in 2001, Rosie remained in her own home. However, in 2005, she broke her hip which necessitated a move to Angel Care Private Care Home (which later became Porch Light Care). In 2010, Rosie became a resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Rosie leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Shirley Malysh and her husband, Henry of Yorkton, SK; her son, Eugene and his wife, Carol of Port Moody, BC; her son, Robert and his wife, Heather of Edmonton, AB; her grandchildren, Darcy (Tracy) Doroshenko, Candice Doroshenko, Scott (Jolene) Doroshenko, Ryan (Teresa) Doroshenko, Blair (Sabrina) Malysh and Curtis Malysh; her great-grandchildren, Tessa Bunger, Colter Christensen, Kaidyn, Kaiah and Karstyn Malysh as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
