Michael Deczycia passed away suddenly on June 12, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Mike was born on October 14, 1932 in Gilbert Plains, MB. He was one of 11 children born to Clym and Anne (nee Volk) Deczycia. He attended Drifting River School until Grade 6, upon which he had to quit school in order to help on the family farm and continued to do so until he met Elizabeth Tanasichuck. In 1961 Mike and Betty were united in Holy Matrimony and were blessed with the birth of their first son, Kenny. In 1964 they were blessed with the birth of their second son, Ivan. They lived in Gilbert Plains where Mike continued to work for various farmers for employment. In 1969 they moved to Yorkton, SK and were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Christine. Mike gained employment with CP Rail in Yorkton in 1970 where he was a track man. In 1981, they were blessed with the birth of their third son, Darren. Mike continued to work for CP Rail until his retirement in 1987 due to his Asthma. During his retirement he always put in a garden and there was always grass cutting and yard work to do during the warm months and snow blowing in the winter months. When he was inside and wanted to put up his feet and relax he watched one of his favourite shows faithfully every day, The Price Is Right. When hockey season started he was there cheering on his team, The Toronto Maple Leafs always hoping they could regain that coveted Stanley Cup which was last won in 1967. In 2011, he was very happy to hear that his other favourite team, The Winnipeg Jets were back on the hockey roster and cheered them on in every game. Mike was an avid football fan as well. The Blue Bombers were his team and often expressed his dislike for Saskatchewan; his nickname for them was "stubble jumpers". Mike loved to spoil his grand-daughters as much as he could by always giving them a little money when they visited. Mike was a man, who if you got into a heated topic with, he would always make sure he got in the last word. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Betty; his son, Ivan; and his daughter, Christine (Arney); and by his two grand-daughters, Taylor and Lauren. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday June 18, 2013 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton with Reverend Father Methodius Kushko C.Ss.R. serving as the Celebrant with Mr. Edward Pindus and Mr. Jason Kopan serving as the Cantors.
