Glenn McIntyre Cowan was born in Yorkton, SK on August 16, 1925, the youngest of two sons born to Robert and Isabella Cowan of Rokeby, SK. When Glenn was 17 his older brother, Murray was killed in action while serving in the Royal Canadian Navy. Five months later, his mother passed away. Glenn and his father resided in Churchbridge for his high school years. When Glenn completed his education, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy until the end of World War II. After his discharge, he married and lived 60 years with his soul mate, Peggy Bembridge. They owned and operated the Bredenbury General Store for 40 years. Glenn loved his wife and four children deeply and unconditionally. This love grew to include his seven grandchildren, their spouses and eleven great-grandchildren. He spent 68 years in Bredenbury, the community of which he was so very proud. During Glenn's life there he was very involved in the community. In 2002 he received the Queen's Jubilee Medal which honours significant contributions to community and country. He was an active Legion member and a founding member of the golf course but was most proud of his cherished Cougars hockey team and more recently the renowned Bredenbury Christmas Lights. Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Isabella Cowan; his brother, Murray and his beloved Peggy. Celebrating the life of this special man are his children, Murray (Faye), Wendy (Fran), Brenda and Bob; his grandchildren, Sarah (DJ), Laura (Rob), Richard (Shin-Ji), Nansee (Brodie), Lynn (Evan), Wayne (Janaya) and Bill (Joanna); his great-grandchildren, Andrew, Timothy, Glenn, Kyle, Nia, Ewan, Owen, Myles, Millar, MacIntyre and Masen; his brother-in-law, Stan Bembridge; many special nieces and nephews; his lifelong friend, Arnold Vickers as well as his kind and caring neighbours and many good friends. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from Knox United Church in Bredenbury, SK with Mr. Fred Nicholson officiating. Glenn's son, Bob shared words of tribute and eulogy and his son, Murray shared the scripture readings. The organist, Lorne Neal and members of the Knox United Church Choir (and friends) led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace" and "In the Bulb There is a Flower". The Choir Anthem was "Upon the Hills of Time". Legion Funeral Rites were conducted with Wayne Reinson serving as the Sergeant-at-Arms, Brian Morris as the Flag Bearer and Steve Guliak as the bugler. The Color Party was John Miller, Don Low, Andy Juba, Chuck Wussow, Wilf Thorsness and other members of the Royal Canadian Legion. The Interment Service followed in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery with Don Kitzul, Andy Vickers, Perry Janett, Dustin Leppington, Ken Morrison and Bob Bjornerud serving as the casket bearers. The honourary pallbearers were Arnold Vickers, Peter Janett, Keith Thorsness, Alex Riddy, Ken Wachs, Gil Boyle, Ewan Morrison, Lint Taylor, Willy Mark and Joe Heinrich.
