Donald Chupa, beloved father, brother and grandfather, passed away suddenly on the family farm in the Homefield District of Saskatchewan on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the age of 72 years. Donald was born on August 26, 1941 in Yorkton, SK. He was the oldest of three boys born to John and Sophie (nee Tataryn) Chupa. He attended Nanton School, which was located three miles from the family farm, until he was 16 years old. He quit school to help out on the family farm and worked as various jobs around the area. On August 26, 1967, Don married Kathy Shkatula and they were blessed with two children, Donnie and Shelley. Don began his career as a Grader Operator for the R.M. of Orkney in 1969 and continued to work for Rural Municipalities across Saskatchewan for the next 35 years. At the age of 63, Don retired and lived on the family farm with his companion, Mary Anaka. Don always kept busy by cutting and baling hay for sale. He enjoyed fixing equipment, and always seemed to be "going to town for parts" to fix a skidoo or tractor he got a "good deal" on. He helped Mary in the garden and always planted far more than what they needed so they had extra to share with family and friends. Don loved his animals and always had a horse or dogs on the yard. Don's two favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing with family and friends. Any chance he got to take the boat out on the lake and sit, he would. He also enjoyed travelling around the country side visiting with friends and neighbours or meeting new people. However, nothing made Don happier than having his children and grandchildren at the farm. Don's door was always open for a game of cards, a cup of coffee or even a little eye opener. Don was predeceased by his parents, John and Sophie. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his son, Donnie (Monica) of Canora, SK and their children, Justin, Tristyn and Kelsey; his daughter, Shelley (Ryan) Semeschuk of Yorkton, SK and their children, Serena, Brittany, Mason, Talon, Devin and Dilan; his brothers, Ron of Bredenbury, SK and his children, Carleen, Glenda and Dale and Lonnie (Jody) of Yorkton, SK and their children, Kurtis and Kylie. Don will also be missed by his companion, Mary Anaka as well as many other friends and family members too numerous to mention. A Visitation for Family and Friends was held on Friday, February 28, 2014 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home, Yorkton, SK. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home with Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The Responses were led by Ed Pindus and members of the Yorkton Ukrainian Catholic Choir. The Cross Bearer was Kurtis Chupa. The Interment Service was held in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. Luke, with Talon Chupa, Mason Chupa, Justin Morozoff, Tristyn Morozoff, Darwin Halushka and Mervin Valik serving as the casket bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
