Shirley Islas Brown

Shirley Islas Brown (nee Coleman). November 30, 1922 - May 31, 2016. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Islas Brown on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Shirley was 93 years of age and has been living in Winnipeg for the past several years. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sheryl (Morley); son, Bruce (Elaine); daughter-in-law Sharon; grandchildren Michelle (Mark); Colin (Ramona); Jesse; Christie (Shawn); Caitlin (Michael) and great-grandchildren Jenna; Christopher; Jace, Hope; brother Glen (Betty); sister-in-law Ava and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford, her son Brent and brother Barclay. Shirley and her husband Clifford lived a significant part of their lives in Yorkton, SK, where they raised their family. In her younger years she enjoyed going to York Lake, travelling through the mountains and volunteering as a Brown Owl for Girl Guides. She loved spending time with her family, participating in activities, playing Bingo and doing crossword puzzles. The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor of Concordia Place, Winnipeg, MB for their kindness, compassion and wonderful care. Shirley will be forever remembered as a devoted mother and wonderful grandmother. A private family service and interment were held at the Yorkton City Cemetery on June 11, 2016 with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant, officiating. Erin Clifford played "Amazing Grace" and "Flowers of the Forrest" on bagpipes. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or ALS Society of Canada.
