Thomas Edward Broostad. March 4, 1910 - July 13, 2014. Having lived life to its fullest, Thomas Edward Broostad (Ted) passed away peacefully in his 105th year at his home in Colonel Belcher Seniors' Residence in Calgary, AB on July 13, 2014. He was born on March 4, 1910 at Wadena, SK, oldest son of Sever Swanson Broostad and Blanche Thomas. His early years were spent on the family farm near Saltcoats where his family had finally settled after having originally homesteaded in the Kelvington District near Little Nut Lake, SK. He married Helene Evangeline Anton on May 8, 1931, which marriage lasted 69 years until her death on July 11, 2000. In the "Dirty 30's" he left the farm for work as a salesman, later becoming an agent for Prudential Life Insurance Co. until retirement. A man of many talents, he fixed engines, built fine crafted wood furniture, played the fiddle by ear up to his 100th birthday and was an ingenious practical problem solver. He enjoyed telling stories of the past and dancing so that he became a favored partner. Family members who have predeceased him besides his parents and wife are his sisters, Mabel Morrison and May Bradford; grandchildren, Karen Hensrud and Grant Hensrud. He leaves to mourn him besides his many friends, his remaining brother, Lloyd Broostad and sister, Winnie Hudson; his daughters, Blanche Hensrud, Arlene Joughin and Jean Anderson; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed. Memorial Service to be in the Foothills Mennonite Church on Tuesday, July 22, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charity of your choice.
