Martha Breitkreuz was born in Lithuania on August 12, 1927, the daughter of Bertha (nee Rankwitz) and Emil Löwe. She had four sisters, Ida, Emmie, Anna and Alina. Martha did not share much about her childhood and youth as this was a difficult time for her. During World War II, she was separated from her family and forced to work in a ladies war camp. After the war, by a miracle of the Lord, she was reunited with some of her relatives, including her father. In 1956, she made the brave and bold move to immigrate to Canada. Martha lived with her sister in Winnipeg and worked as a housekeeper in a hospital. She enjoyed going to church, where she met the Wicharts, an elderly couple that befriended her and treated her like the daughter they never had. When the Wicharts retired, Martha moved with them to Chilliwack, BC. Through them and their relatives, Martha met the love of her life, Heinz Breitkreuz. Heinz and Martha were married on December 4, 1971. They moved to Springside, where they farmed together until Martha's health began to fail in 2000. The family farm was then passed on to her only son, Bernd, who she loved and was very proud of. Throughout her life, she thanked the Lord for his grace and mercy. She read her bible daily, early in the morning and gave thanks for whatever the day had given her. Martha was a very hard worker all of her life. In December of 2009, she went to the Nursing Home and lived there until she met her Lord and Saviour on July 6, 2014. Martha leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her husband, Heinz Breitkreuz; her son, Bernd (Martha) Breitkreuz and their children, Heather (Michael) Chobot, Kyle and Kristel. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 from the Springside Baptist Church in Springside, SK with Pastor Richard Kauenhofen officiating. The pianist, Mrs. Valerie Kauenhofen led the congregation in the singing of the hymns. Martha's family members shared words of tribute and eulogy. The Interment Service followed in the Springside Town Cemetery with Heather Chobot, Michael Chobot, Kyle Breitkreuz, Kristel Breitkreuz, Aaron Pullman and John Nickel serving as the casket bearers.
