Victoria Boychuk

Victoria Boychuk formerly of Yorkton, SK passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at St. Paul's Lutheran Home in Melville, SK. She was 84 years and 8 months of age. Vicky, as she was usually called, was born on June 8, 1930 to Wasyl and Polly Wasylowich, the youngest of nine children. She grew up on her family's farm North of Theodore, SK in the Drobot district and attended Chernowitz School. In 1946, Vicky travelled to visit her brothers Alec and Nick, who were working in Sudbury, ON. While there, she met a friend of theirs, Victor Boychuk and they married two years later on December 12, 1948. Shortly thereafter they moved back to Saskatchewan to help farm Victor's family farm near Mikado, SK. They farmed the Boychuk homestead with Victor's brother until 1956/57, when they purchased their own property east of Yorkton and built their home there in 1958. During this time they also had two daughters, Diane in 1954 and Debbie in 1961. A year after her husband of 62 years of marriage passed away, she moved into Queen Elizabeth Court in Yorkton and a year later, with declining health, moved to St. Paul's Lutheran Home in Melville. Vicky spent many hours maintaining a huge garden, cooking superb dinners for family and friends, cooking with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and playing cards. Periodically she worked out of the home at Bobby's Pancake House, the Corner House and Woolworth's hardware department. She took much pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Vicky will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Diane (Greg) Hilderman of Lloydminster, and Debbie (Greg) Barr of Yorkton; her grandchildren Jeff (Tasha) Hilderman, Jennifer Barr and Derek Barr, her three great-grandchildren Hannah, Leo & Bailey Hilderman, plus numerous other family members and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Polly Wasylowich, all of her siblings - George, Alec, Harry, Nick, Mary Lukeniuk, and Dora Chobotar - as well as her granddaughter Pamela Hilderman. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Deborah Smith of Westview United Church officiating. Pianist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Church in the Wildwood', 'In the Garden', and 'Beyond the Sunset'. Amanda also sang the solo 'Whispering Hope'. Son-in-law Greg Hilderman gave the family tribute. The honorary pallbearers were Ethel Fisher, Anne Oucharek, Greg Hilderman, Greg Barr, Jeff Hilderman, and Jennifer Barr. The interment took place beside her husband Victor in the Garden of Gethsemane with grandson Derek Barr as the urnbearer.
