Dianna Carol Blommaert was born on March 1, 1948. She passed away peacefully on June 4, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. Dianna was raised on the family farm on the east side of Yorkton. She graduated from the Yorkton Collegiate in 1966. She then attended Secretarial School in Regina for one year, completing the course in 1967. Dianna then returned to Yorkton to work for the RCMP City Detachment for two years. In 1970, her adventurous side kicked in and, with her cousin, Betty Beitz, she decided to move to Germany for two years and worked on a United States Army base. She returned to Canada in 1972 and decided to make her home in Winnipeg. At that point, Dianna found employment at the University of Manitoba, where she worked her way from Secretary to Administrative Assistant to the Treasurer in her 34 years at the University. Upon her retirement in 2006, she moved back to the farm at Yorkton. She and her sister, Sandra both helped to look after their mother, Leah until Sandra lost her own battle with cancer in 2012. Dianna loved the farm and also to travel. Every year, she would use part of her holiday time to travel somewhere with her sister, Sandra and the rest would be used to help on the farm. Together with Sandra, she helped their brother, Wayne on the farm, with Dianna becoming quite an accomplished combine operator. She also took great pride in keeping the farm yard looking like a pristine acreage at all times. Dianna was very modest though and when someone would comment on how beautiful the yard looked, she would just say, "It's okay", then start pointing out all the things that still could be done. Dianna was predeceased by her father, Wilfred in 2006 and her sister, Sandra in 2012. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her mother, Leah; her brother, Wayne (Chantal, Stephanie and Cody) as well as many cousins and friends. A Celebration of Dianna's Life was held on Friday, June 12, 2015 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Steve Rosluk officiating. The organist, Karen DeLong, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "Precious Lord,Take My Hand", In The Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset". Special Music was provided by Arlo and Ronan Moen who sang, "The Family of God". Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Betty Radford. Following a luncheon in the Gunn Reception Room at Christie's Funeral Home, the Cremation Committal took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery, Yorkton, SK with Dianna's brother, Wayne Blommaert serving as the urn bearer.
