Kelly Kevin Blight

Kelly Kevin Blight, loving husband and father, passed away suddenly but peacefully at the Jowsey House Care Home in Yorkton, SK on March 4,  2016. After being diagnosed in October with Stage 4 small cell lung cancer, Kelly put up a good fight to beat his cancer. Although the past 5 months were a difficult time for his family, they were also a beautiful gift. Kelly now rests in the arms of the Lord and has joined his parents, Reginald and Myrna (nee Villeneau) Blight and his brother, Gary Blight in Heaven. Kelly is survived by his siblings, Heather, Lorne, Harold, Greg, Gwen and Doug. Kelly met Darla Krall in September of 1992. They welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Jessica Dawn Blight on May 21, 1995. Kelly supported his family by working seasonal jobs for farmers and working as a livestock handler for Parkland Livestock Market in Leross, SK. In the winter of 1997, the family moved to Yorkton, SK for increased opportunities. In December of 1999, Kelly began working for Popowich Milling. He was a dedicated worker and continued working when the company changed hands to Grain Millers Canada Corp. On October 6, 2000, they welcomed their second daughter, Brooklyn Alexis Blight. With a growing family they decided it was time to tie the knot. Kelly and Darla were married on August 17, 2002 after ten years together. A year later on October 16, 2003, another daughter, Haley Grace Blight was born. Then on April 26, 2005, Kelly's only son, Jayden Gary Blight arrived. His family meant the world to Kelly. Kelly was a great friend to many. Kelly made friends easily and would do anything to lend a hand if ever needed. He always enjoyed the company of others, listening to their stories and laughing along with them. He enjoyed challenging card games of three spot and crib or just sitting back and having a cold one. Summer evenings were spent with family and friends around a fire pit in the back yard, or going out camping for a weekend. These are the memories we will hold dear to our hearts. The family extends their gratitude to all that have been along Kelly's journey and supported them during this troubling time. Thank you to the staff at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre and at Jowsey House for the kindness and care you gave to Kelly. We appreciate all of you. ~Rest in peace Kelly~ A Service to Celebrate Kelly's life was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Jen Dresser officiating. Special CD music selections were "I'll See You Again" by Westlife, "This is Not Goodbye" by Sidewalk Prophets and "When I Get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley. Words of tribute and eulogy from Darla, and Kelly's children were shared. The Urn Bearers were his children, Jessica, Brooklyn, Haley, Jayden and cousin, Dylan Blight. In accordance with Kelly's wishes, a private family cremation committal will take place at a later date. Friends so wishing may make donations in Kelly's name to the University of British Columbia to allow researchers to study the therapeutic effects of cannabis (The University of British Columbia, 2329 West Mall, Vancouver, BC, Canada, V6T 1Z4). Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
