Mr. Harry Blahut of Yorkton, formerly of the Rokeby district, beloved husband of Kay Blahut passed away with family by his side on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 93 years of age. Harry was born to parents, Peter and Pelagia (Kornak) Blahut in the Beaverdale district, the fifth of ten children. In 1928, the Blahut family made the move to the Rokeby district and here Harry attended School obtaining his Grade Ten. In 1952, as a young man, he moved to Winnipeg. It was here he made enough money to purchase his first "McCormick W4" tractor in order to start his farming career on a quarter section of land back in Rokeby. In 1954, he met the love of his life at a dance. After a short courtship, Harry and Katie (Teslak) were married on November 21, 1954. After spending a winter in Rokeby, they made their way to Toronto where Harry worked for his brother-in-law in a hotel. They returned to Rokeby in 1956 and it was here that they would begin their family life. In 1962, they built their new home on the farm, in which they resided until 1991. They moved to Yorkton that year and resided in their home only until just recently. In 2015, Harry transitioned to the Nursing Home in where he remained up until his recent passing. Harry was a quiet man who could say a lot just with his "look" and raising of his brows. He was a very hard working man who loved farming and the outdoors. He was always there to lend a helping hand to his friends and neighbours. He lived for those "Spring Auction Sales" and enjoyed coffee and conversation with his friends at the Dairy Queen. Harry was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Predeceased by his father Peter (1979); mother Pelagia (1936); brothers Peter (2002), Bill (2003), Alex (1998), Nick (2012), Fred (2012); sister Katherine (2004) and daughter-in-law Pattey Blahut (2011). He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years Katie; daughter Nancy (Dave) Dubnyk and children Lindsay (Brandon) Schwartz, Michael and Chelsey; son James (Joanne) Blahut; son Jack (Michelle) and daughter Brandey; daughter Corinne (Dale) MacKay and children Carter and Brooke; sisters Sophie Oshanek and Evelyn Radostits; brother Ed (Gladys) Blahut; a sister-in-law Doris Blahut along with numerous nieces and nephews. Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The cantors were Lorne Stechyshyn and Laurie Fedorowich and were assisted with their respective choirs.
