Enga Berg, beloved wife of the late Jacob "Jake" Berg, formerly of the Springside district passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 91 years on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Enga (nee Breitkreuz) was born on February 26, 1922 in east Poland to Samuel and Emilia Breitkreuz. In 1924, the family immigrated to Canada, finally settling on a farm in the Springside district. In 1943, she married Jake Berg and the set up their home on another farm in the Springside district. Enga took an active interest in the farm and was truly Jake's partner. In 1960, while continuing to farm, they moved the house into Springside so that the five children could have more convenient and reliable access to school, given the condition of the country roads at the time. During that time, they ran a general store in Springside, while continuing to farm. Enga's faith in Jesus was vital to her. She lived it. It was evidenced by her hospitality for neighbours, in the way she nurtured her children, and through her commitment to the Springside Baptist Church, of which she was the last surviving charter member. Her involvements through the years included the choir, Homebuilders, Ladies' Aid, and supplying food for the many events at the church that included lunch. She was also involved in the Women's Auxiliary of the Gideons, as Jake was a Gideon. Enga had a wide variety of interests. She did macramé, created quilts, knitted sweaters and toys, and sewed many items of clothes for her family. Enga loved to travel and made a number of trips with Jake. After Jake passed away, she took advantage of every tour that the local bus tour company offered and one year received the award for most-travelled passenger. After Jake passed away in 1993, Enga moved into the Heritage Place in Springside, and in 2008, into the Bentley in Yorkton where she lived until her passing on Christmas Eve of this year. Enga's joy was family. She took great delight in her children, and in her growing band of grandchildren. She enjoyed life to the end. She was always ready for a game of rummy cube, and enjoyed winning over any of the children who were ready to take her on. She retained her sense of humor. In her last hours, as she contemplated that his might be her time, she said, "I have a lot of good years behind me." Those of us who were blessed to have her in our lives have had our years made better. Enga was predeceased by her parents and by her siblings, Jonathan, Irma, Adelbert and George. She is survived by her five children, Samuel (Erika) and children, Garry and Ida-Marie; Paul (Beth) and their children, Ian, Nolan, and Everett; Elizabeth (Glen Werner) and their children, Kristen, Kent and Jonathan; Stephen (Debbie) and children, Michael, Lucas, Justin, Teryl and Mark; and Joanne (Dan McDonagh) and son, Jon. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren. A Service of Comfort was held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home, Yorkton, SK. with Pastor Samuel Berg officiating. Funeral Services took place on Friday, January 3, 2014 from the Springside Baptist Church in Springside, SK with Pastor Richard Kauenhofen. The scriptures were read by Kristen Frischbutter. A pictorial tribute created by Stephen Berg was shared. Words of tribute and eulogy were also shared by grandson, Nolan Berg, son, Stephen Berg and daughters, Elizabeth Werner and Joanne Berg. The pianist, Jeanette Kriger led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, "In The Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Blessed Assurance". Ladies Trio, Christel Derow, Geraldine Goltz and Grace Goltz also shared a selection. The Interment Service followed in the Springside Town Cemetery, Springside, SK with Kent Werner, Jonathan Werner, Nolan Berg, Mark Berg, Ben Konkel and Gilbert Breitkreuz serving as the casket bearers.
