Annie Beatrice Berg (nee Symons) September 14, 1911 - Gerald, SK. March 18, 2014 - Saltcoats, SK. It is with great sadness that we, the children, announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Beatrice Berg on March 18, 2014 at the age of 102. She was predeceased by her husband, Manly in 1994 and two grandchildren Shirley Anne and Lorne Schoenroth in 1976. Beatrice will be forever remembered and greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, son Gordon (Pat) Berg of Regina, Twin daughters Arlene (Ray) Lemchuk of Yorkton and Darlene (Gerald) Burman of Bredenbury, daughter Vicky (Greg) Kohnen of Crooked Lake, special niece Kaye (Don) Hanson of Cranbrooke, BC, a nephew Darwin (Vicki) Symons of Osyoos, BC as well as 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Her father was a section foreman for the CNR so this meant that in her growing up years her family moved to many different locations in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. She met her future husband, Manly at a dance in Melville and they were married on July 19, 1932. They farmed in the Bredenbury District until 1953 when they sold the farm to their daughter, Darlene and her husband. Upon moving to Yorkton she decided to become a secretary so she went to night school to take typing. As far as her shorthand skills were concerned, she bought a book and taught herself. These skills served her well over the years. Manly worked for Massey Ferguson and was transferred several times so she was able to obtain employment with various companies wherever they moved. In 1983 she was asked to promote Wellness Clinics, which resulted in more than 150 clinics opening in the Province. Because of her involvement with WISE (Well Information Services for the Elderly), she was asked to join an Advisory Committee of Discover Choices for the Federal Government. She found this work very rewarding and traveled extensively between Ottawa, Winnipeg and Regina. On May 2, 2000 she was awarded the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award, which was presented to her by the then Governor General Adrianne Clarkson at a Gala event at City Hall in Regina. This was awarded to her for her many years of involvement in organizations that would enrich the lives of all senior citizens. A very special Thank You to the great staff at the Lakeside Manor Care Home, Saltcoats for the fantastic loving care extended to our Mother over the past six years. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 73 Smith St. E., Yorkton, SK. For family and friends so wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Beatrice may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 73 Smith St. E., Yorkton, SK. S3N 0H6, or Knox United Church, Box 185, Bredenbury, SK. S0A 0H0. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
