Mrs. Iris Berezny of the Parkerview district, beloved wife of Taras Berezny entered eternal life on July 31, 2014 at the Canora Hospital after a brief illness. She was 73 years of age. Iris was born on August 4, 1940 on the family farm in the Parkerview district. She was the third child of William and Mary Protzak. Iris attended Parkerview School and completing her Grade 12 in Yorkton. After high school she attended teacher's college in Regina and taught for one year in the Theodore district. She was united in marriage to Taras Berezny on October 8, 1960 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Taras and Iris started their life journey on the family farm and have remained there for the past 53 years. Together they were blessed with three children, Harold, Terrance and Loriann. Iris was very involved in the farming activities, grew a plentiful garden every year and loved baking and cooking for her family. She liked to partake in playing bingo and working alongside others in the parish hall cooking for various hall functions. She always had time for her friends and neighbors and especially enjoyed their visits. They all knew coffee was always on and her baking on the table. All who knew her personality knew Iris was definitely a better giver than a taker, whether it be of her time or her talents. In addition to this, her faith was important to her and she was dedicated to the church. She is survived by her husband, Taras; son, Harold (Sheri), Luke and Kathryn; son Terrance (Laura), Matthew and Michael and daughter, Loriann (Darold), Clayton and Brennan, Trista (Kyle), Cade and Justin (Kim); father, William Protzak; sister, Ann Bobyk; brother, Orest (Veronica) Protzak; sister, Sylvia (Stan) Rashbrook ; brother-in-law, Leslie Thies; brother-in law, Bill (Genevieve) Berezny; sister-in-law, Mary (Dave) Zulyniak, and sister-in-law, Iris Berezny. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Protzak; sister, Olga Thies; brothers-in-law, Harry Berezny and Bill Bobyk and mother and father-in-law, Peter and Olena Berezny. Prayers were held on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Boris Kyba, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Wayne Boczulak, Ladmer Moskal & Heidi Spilchuk and members of the parish choir. Dianna Woytuik paid tribute in the song, "Ave Maria". The cross bearer was Ashley Chaikowski and the epistle reader was Michael Berezny. The interment followed in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with her Grandchildren, Mathew Berezny, Clayton Hotsko, Brennan Hotsko, Luke Berezny, Michael Berezny and Kathryn Berezny serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in honour of Iris may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or a Charity of Choice.
