Lawrence Thomas Belitski passed away, peacefully with his family lovingly by his side, on Friday, June 21, 2013. He was born on October 4, 1943, in Canora, SK, to Walter and Mary Belitski. He was a shy young boy who attended Boxmore School, where he left at an early age to enter into the work force. Among the many jobs he took on in his life, he was working on the railroad and in 1963, he met Penny Kilgour, the love of his life, & his future wife. Lawrence and Penny were wed on February 8, 1964 in Rama, SK, and relocated to Yorkton, where he began his long career with Morris Rod Weeder. They went on to have 4 children, Bernadette, Cassandra, Lorelie, and Clayton. In 1978, Lawrence took the opportunity to start his own business, L & M Farm Equipment, in Canora, SK, and in 1980, he relocated the family there as well. In 1985, Lawrence decided to leave the farming industry for good, and began, what would be his true passion, working for Alto Construction, which would take him to mine sites all over Western and Northern Canada. The family then moved back to Yorkton, where they continue to reside. In 1992, after sustaining a couple of injuries, Lawrence made the decision to settle down to enjoy his family, and take on less physical work, as well as begin a 20 year journey with Penny, in raising and caring for numerous foster children. He also began working at Superstore in 1993, and this is where he made his biggest impression on those who know him, by always greeting them at the main doors, as a Host, with his bright blue eyes, infectious smile and fun-loving sense of humor. He retired in 2010, due to health issues beyond his control. Among his many passions in life, Lawrence loved to fish, hunt, and most of all, tend to his yard, where he would lovingly care for his flowers, or His Babies, as he would call them. If it wasn't obvious that he was a proud Father, it became even more so when he became a loving and doting Grandfather. Throughout the years, Grandpa Town would always have his special sidekick to help him with his yard work, and Chalis to bake him cookies...Our Papa will always be missed. Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Mary, his daughter, Bernadette, his brothers, Edward and Edmond, along with a brother in infancy, and his twin sisters. He leaves behind his loving wife, Penny; his daughter Cassandra (Brian) Scheier, and their children, Shelley (Jason) Scheier-Polvi, Bradley (Holly Fergusson) and Brooklyn; his daughter, Lorelie (Brad) Wyatt, and their children, Dylan (Jennifer Richards) Harambura, Chalis Harambura, and Tucker Wyatt; and his son, Clayton Belitski, and his children, Aleese, Marcus, and Lucas, as well as many relatives and good friends. A Service of Remembrance was held Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 2:30p.m. from the Chapel of Christies Funeral Home with Father Francis Hengen officiating. A reading was offered by niece, Barb Ferrier and special music was played upon the procession and recession. "Go Rest High On That Mountain" by Vince Gill and "Working Man" by Rita McNeil. A private family committal will take place at a later date in the Rama Cemetery. Friends may make memorial donations in Lawrence's memory to the Health Foundation for use in the construction of the new Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie's Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
