BARABASH - Bernice Lucy

Bernice Lucy Barabash July 10, 1942 - December 6, 2012 aged 70 years. Bernice was born on the family farm at Wroxton to her parents Peter and Anne Matcyk (nee Blahut). She attended Jarema School near the family farm. She later moved to Regina and worked at the Bus Depot till her mother got ill, and then she returned to the family farm to look after her. On October 6, 1962 she married Paul Barabash in Wroxton, SK. She then moved to the Barabash family farm near St. Philip's, SK. Together they raised four children, Lawrence, Michael, Linda and Donna. Once the children were grown Bernice worked off the farm at the Motel in Kamsack and as a nanny. Bernice stayed on the farm after Paul's passing in July 2002 and then moved to Canora in the fall of 2002. Bernice was an active member of the St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church UCWL. She was a member of the choir, perogie making group and serving various functions. She enjoyed memorable trips with her sisters to Mexico, Moose Jaw Spa and Comox, B.C., which were highlights of her retirement. Her biggest passions were her family, reading and gardening. She faced many challenges in life with courage and determination, the passing of her son; Michael, her husband; Paul and her valiant battle with cancer. Her greatest weakness and joy were her grandchildren and great grandchild. Bernice is survived by her children; Linda (Glenn) Seitz of Yorkton, Donna (Sid) Stasiuk of Codette and Lawrence (Shelley) Barabash of Preeceville, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, siblings; Walter (Kathy) Matcyk of Regina, Jan (Bud) Fraser of Comox, B.C., Angie (Ron) Skiba of Saskatoon, Gerald Matcyk of Yorkton, Mervin (Mary) Matcyk of Yorkton and Judi (Ray) Braid of Stony Mountain, SK. Bernice is predeceased by her parents; Peter and Anne (nee Blahut), husband; Paul, son; Michael and brothers; Allan and Norman. Prayer service was held Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from the Chapel of Wolkowski Funeral Service - Canora, Funeral Service was held Thursday, December 13, 2012 from St. Josephat's Ukrainian Catholic Church - Kamsack, with Reverend Ivan Derkach officiating. Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery. Friends so wishing may make memorial contribution to the Ukrainian Catholic Woman's League - Canora or to the Canadian Cancer Society as tokens of remembrance. Letters of condolences may be left for the family by visiting Wolkowski.ca
