STURGIS — Kaylyn Barsby, the Sturgis Composite School kindergarten teacher bid farewell to her students in the special kindergarten graduation ceremony held in the gymnasium on June 21.
Students were introduced as they walked to the stage accompanied by the music, You’ve Got a Friend in Me. Members of the Sturgis Composite School kindergarten class were: Kage Babiarz, Blake Beatty, Bria Binkley, Ayden Borus, Paisley Boucher, Layton Boyko, Abel Eagleson, Draven Head, Will Prestie, Jacob Seghers, Dawson Serdachny, Zion Tomas and Elijah Vicente.
"Good morning and welcome to everyone joining us today to celebrate the 2022 Kindergarten Class of Sturgis Composite School,” began Barsby. “In March, my maternity leave ended and I was lucky enough to start and end my school year here in Sturgis with this group of kids. Although I did not spend the entire year with them, I got to known them quite well, along with each of their unique personalities. In the past four months, these students have shown growth in many areas, including friendships, independence, problem solving skills, and academic abilities as well,” concluded Barsby.
During the program portion, the students recited the ABC Kindergarten grad poem, followed by a farewell song and the presentations of graduation certificates. The students also shared what they liked about kindergarten and what they wanted to be when they grew-up.
A slide presentation followed by cake and refreshments concluded the afternoon program.
