PREECEVILLE - Amber Spray and Camryn Nelson of Preeceville were both accepted onto Team Saskatchewan for the Summer Games. Both girls will be participating in the U15 girls discus, shot-put, javelin and hammer throw events in the summer games scheduled to take place on July 22 to 24 in Sherwood Park, Alberta.

The games will feature athletes from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta, and will give athletes the possible opportunity to attend Nationals in Quebec on August 1.

“I was encouraged to try out after winning a silver medal at the provincial track meet,” said Nelson. “It is a great opportunity to meet new people and push myself to do my best. To prepare myself I have practiced a lot at both school and at home. I remain very excited to go and represent my province.”

Nelson, who is 15 years old, is very involved in the community and in the school through teaching T-ball, playing on an all-girls softball team, figure skating, participating in all school sports, and working part time at her family’s business. Over the summer she will be a camp councillor at Nelson Lake while attaining her life guard certificate.

She was an aggregate winner at the track and field district meet. “I am very excited to learn and be the best I can be whether it is a personal goal or if I hit the podium. I enjoy all sports and look forward to trying a new sport of hammer throw and am very proud to be attending the summer games,” said Spray.

Spray is an active member in 4-H which she feels has played an key role to helping her preparing for the games.
