PREECEVILLE-The Preeceville School Senior Boys and Girls Basketball teams are looking to add another set of gold medals as they double host Regionals to be held at the Preeceville School Gym on March 14 and 15.
The Senior Girls were seeded number one after a very successful season of recording 23 wins and only three losses. They received a by for the conference play and advanced directly to the Regionals. Preeceville will take on Choiceland on Friday, March 14 at 4:30 p.m. Herbert and Central Butte will battle it out between them for the privilege to play in the finals. The gold medal game will see the winners of both games facing off on Saturday, March 15. The game will determine who will represent their school at Hoopla (Provincials to be held in Saskatoon on March 21 and 22.
On March 8, the Preeceville Sr. Boys basketball team hosted its conference’s playoffs.
Preeceville and Kelvington played the first game on Saturday. The winner will advance to Regionals and an afternoon matchup with the #1 seed Porcupine Bears.
“The first game got off to a defensive start as both teams battled hard and were physical,” stated Jay Steppan, Preeceville coach.
But, by halftime, the Panthers had started to find their rhythm and had a 40-24 lead. Preeceville continued to shoot the ball well in the third, holding a 32-point lead going into the 4th quarter with a 62-30 lead. The Panthers would close out the win with a 80-43 score.
With the win, the Panthers secured a spot in the Regionals next weekend, where the top 16 teams in the province in the 1A classification will battle to move on to Hoopla.
Also, the Panthers advanced to be able to play in the conference championship game against the Porcupine Bears.
Preeceville came out flying in their game against Porcupine as they held an impressive 25-11 lead at the end of the 1st. But, good teams don’t quit, and Porcupine showed why they are one of the top-ranked teams in 1A, as they shot their way back into the game by halftime, trailing 43-32, the rest of the game was a back and forth, fast-paced game as both teams were hitting shots and giving everything they had. At the end of 3, the Panthers were up 59-56, with a thrilling 4th quarter on the way. Both teams had the lead in the 4th quarter, as it was close right till the end.
In the end, Preeceville won the game 83-80, to win the Conference and to move on to regionals.
Preeceville is now #1 in the province for 1A classification and will be hosting regionals this weekend, March 14 and 15.
Both teams invite family, friends, and community members to come out and lend their voices in support of cheering them on to victory.
