Community members honoured with Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal

Individuals in Preeceville and Sturgis receive highest award in Canada history

There were 39 members from the Canora-Pelly constituency that received the Queen Elizabeth 11 Platinum Jubilee medal in a special ceremony held in Canora on January 3. Terry Dennis, the MLA for the Canora-Pelly constituency, congratulated the recipients for their accomplishments.

PREECEVILLE - There were 39 members from the Canora-Pelly constituency that received the Queen Elizabeth 11 Platinum Jubilee medal in a special ceremony held in Canora on Jan. 3. Terry Dennis, the MLA for the Canora-Pelly constituency, hosted the event.

The Queen Elizabeth 11 Platinum Jubilee Medal (Saskatchewan) is hereby conferred upon the recipients in commemoration of the seventieth anniversary of Her Majesty’s Accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada and in recognition of their valuable contributions to the province, stated the certificate given to each recipient.

Recipients from Preeceville were: Ralph Ager who was nominated for his volunteerism as the Beaver and Cub Scouts leader; he coached minor ball and  minor hockey, was the president of minor hockey, was a town councillor and currently the Mayor of Preeceville. Ager has also been the Preeceville and District Lion’s club president and treasurer, and remains a dedicated volunteer to the Lions Club.

Garth Harris was nominated as a volunteer and committee member with Tourism Preeceville, East Central Tourism, the secretary treasurer with Rough Ride Snowmobile club, Porcupine Forest Snowmobile Association, Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association, the Preeceville Lions Club, Economic Development Committee and the past Mayor of the Town of Preeceville.

Several community members from Sturgis received the award.

Pat Prokop was nominated for her volunteerism as a member of Sturgis Kinette club, including volunteering at preschool, fundraising, babysitter course and Telemiracle. She has been involved with the Sturgis Figure skating club, Sturgis girls hockey team, Stenen Barveenok Ukrainian Dance Club, SADD (Students Against Drinking and Driving), School Drama club, Saskatchewan Drama Association, United Church, Sunday School, Sturgis Sports and Rodeo, Crystal Lake hamlet board, Crystal lake recreation committee, Sturgis Lacrosse teams, along with numerous other volunteer positions.

Trevor Olson was nominated for his volunteer efforts through coaching basketball and lacrosse, a Kinsmen member, Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department member, a member of the Sports and Rodeo committee and for his involvement in the Sturgis curling club.

Brad Secundiak received a medal for his volunteer efforts with minor hockey including as a referee and for his involvement with the Kinsmen and as a volunteer firefighter and fire chief.

Merv Secundiak of Stenen was honoured for his involvement as a former volunteer and Mayor of Stenen, and a volunteer with curling, as well as coaching minor hockey and baseball and volunteering with Stenen and the provincial  Save The Wooden Structure Elevator committee.
