Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Wolseley Care Centre on August 26th at the age of 92 years. Mom was born October 22, 1922 in Ukraine. At the age of 13, her family immigrated to Canada and settled in the Chekow District. At the age of 17, her mother passed away leaving the responsibility, along with her father’s help, of looking after her four younger siblings,

ranging in age from 1 year to 14 years. This was a huge responsibility for one so young. We remember her telling us that she baked bread twice a week, seventeen loaves each time.

On October 20th, 1944, Mom married Sam Korchinos and after spending their first winter together in Toronto, they returned and settled in the Hryhoriw District. Her father also remarried the same year so the responsibility of her younger siblings was transferred to her stepmother. Mom and dad farmed in the Hryhoriw District until they retired. Their oldest son John was born in 1946, followed by their daughter Mary in 1948 and daughter Stella in 1952. Mom and dad retired from farming in 1976 at which time they moved their home into Preeceville.

They had enjoyed 9 years of retirement together when dad passed away in 1985 at the age of 72 years. Mom continued to live in her home where she enjoyed many years looking after her large garden and flowers. Her flowers were the talk of the town and she was only too happy to give anyone a slip of a certain plant. She celebrated her 90th birthday still in her home, with the help of Home Care the last few years.

The following spring, she suffered a fall and at that time she was moved to a Personal Care Home in Indian Head. She lived there till the following winter when her health deteriorated and she needed more assistance. She then moved to the Wolseley Care Home where she lived until her passing. Mom was predeceased by her mother in 1938, her father in 1975, her stepmother in 1978, a brother John in 1938, stepbrother Orest in 1960, her granddaughter Cynthia Korchinos in 1971, her husband Sam in 1985, her daughter Mary in 2008 and her sister Mary in 2008.

Mom is survived by her son John, daughter Stella (Ray), soninlaw Frank, seven grandchildren: James and Calvin (Alicia) Korchinos and their mother Rose, Kim and Kelly Dunetz, Trevor (Carla), Tyler (Nicole) and Trent (Michelle) Crozier. She is also survived by seven greatgrandchildren: Tanner and Hallie, Blake, Carter, and Irelyn, Kiefer and Mila and by sisters Stella Krochak of St Catherines, Ontario, Yvonne Hoffman of Barrhead, Alberta and brother Steve Chorney of Kitimat, B.C. Funeral service was held on Monday, August 31st, 2015 from the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville, Sask. with Father Rac officiating.

Interment followed in the Preeceville Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. At this time we would like to thank the Preeceville Home Care who gave Mom excellent care and allowed her to remain in her own home for a few extra years and also to the Wolseley Care Home where the care she received was unparallel to any other. VICHNAYAT PAMYAT!  (FOREVER IN OUR MEMORY).
