OUTLOOK - A hockey camp that was held at the Jim Kook Rec Plex in Outlook on Sunday, March 24 was designated for para athletes who were looking to take to the ice.
Held by Hockey Saskatchewan, the camp featured drills and technique seasoning and saw five athletes take part, who were looking to hone their skills and better their gameplay.
Such an activity is certainly not new to Outlook, as the riverside community held the first-ever provincial camp in the province's newly-launched Sask First Para Program back on December 17. The program is touted as being a "high-performance initiative dedicated to honing the skills of both able and non-able-bodied athletes."
The program is an extension of the Sask First Program, which has been fielding hockey players since it was created in 1988 to represent the province in Western Canadian and National competitions.
Since its debut on the Paralympic program at the 1994 Lillehammer Paralympic Winter Games, para ice hockey has continued to grow in popularity, becoming one of the biggest attractions for spectators at the Paralympic Winter Games.
