Outlook home a total loss after major fire

The investigation continues after flames ravaged an Outlook home.

OUTLOOK - A fiery blaze that broke out in an Outlook home has left the household unlivable.

On Tuesday evening, September 19, the Outlook-Rudy Fire Department was called to the scene at 407 Douglass Street, where they battled a house fire that wound up causing major damage.

Sgt. Mark Langager of the Outlook RCMP said that the damage to the property was extensive, which can be seen on the front of the home, as well as to the south side and reaching the back of the house, where the fire had begun to claim the garage before fire crews had managed to get the blaze under control.

Langager says the house is a total loss and at press time, the cause of the fire was undetermined and was still being investigated.

In the aftermath of the flames, an online fundraiser has been launched by Lori Clark in order to help out the homeowners, Kim and Shaun Salen. The campaign says that Kim, whose last name was previously Silverthorn, has lived in the community for many years and has been offering hair styling services in Outlook for some time. It tells visitors that any donation would create a significant impact on assisting with costs related to dealing with the aftermath of the fire, helping both Kim and Shaun get back on their feet.

The campaign, hosted by GoFundMe, had raised $2,250 from 25 donations at the time of this issue. People can check it out at https://www.gofundme.com/f/lets-support-kim-at-this-time-of-need if they feel compelled to donate.
