OUTLOOK - There may have been more than a few future business types created from an event held at Outlook Elementary School last week.
The school played host to a trade show on Thursday, June 6 that featured Grade 5 students showing off a number of home-based businesses. The kids set up shop in the gymnasium and showed visitors all of their handmade items, informing them of their business plans, and how they went about creating and marketing their products.
There were bath bombs, jewelry items, key chains, door hangers, treats for dogs, and even cookie mix. In addition, several of the booths also committed a percentage of proceeds to charity.
A similar event was covered by this reporter at Loreburn Central School earlier this spring. Such events are held as part of the PowerPlay Young Entrepreneurs program, which empowers young students with an engaging, hands-on approach that instills in them the resources and knowledge that they need in order to establish their own businesses. The end result is events such as this one, which sees budding entrepreneurs try their hand at creating and selling their own creations.
