OUTLOOK - The Myrol Brothers congratulate Ward and Judy McNichol on their 50th wedding anniversary. We had a great time. We thank you so much for the privilege of helping you celebrate the special occasion with you.

October 18, 2024 also marked a milestone in the musical careers of Rick and Keith Myrol. They have now performed in the Outlook Legion Hall for 60 years. Yes, six decades.

We first performed in the hall in the fall of 1964. We were with a band called the Chevelles. The members were Rick Myrol guitar and vocals, Keith Myrol drums and vocals, Murray Beaton vocals, Jim Neve from Conquest on guitar, Bruce Leech from Conquest on Bass. It was a teen dance.

At that time brother Myles was only 7 years old so he was a bit too young.

Over the years there were other bands that the Myrol Brothers were part of that performed at the Legion Hall.

Here’s a trip down memory lane.

The Shylocks were all from Outlook. Keith Myrol guitar and vocals, Dennis Cann drums, Charlie Anderson Bass, Ross Larden Sax, Phillip Currie guitar.

The Tymes. Rick Myrol guitar and vocals, Keith Myrol Drums and Vocals, Dennis Cann organ and Bruce Leech from Conquest Bass and vocals.

The Reactions. Rick Myrol guitar and vocals, Keith Myrol Drums and vocals, Dennis Cann organ, and Jim Neve from Conquest on Bass and vocals.

We played for weddings, celebrations, town functions and any and all events. Mostly we played for teen dances. Teens came from all around the area. They came from Outlook, Broderick, Glenside, Hawarden, Strongfield, Macrorie, Cutbank (the Dam), Conquest, Ardath, and Bounty.

Most often we would rent the hall. We’d put up a few posters in Outlook, sometimes drive to Macrorie and Conquest to put them up and the hall would be full. No food, no drinks, just music and 3 hours of dancing. It was great.

As time passed and Myles grew older, he too started playing in the Outlook Legion Hall. It was 1970. 54 years ago. It is also a very long time.

Badgrass. Myles Myrol Drums and vocals, Arlen Salte guitar and vocals, Calvin Clark bass, Kelly Hogan guitar.

Us Guys. Myles Myrol drums and vocals, Jerry Bartzen from Birsay guitar and vocals, Darcy Tofin bass, Dennis Tofin vocals.

The Myrol Family Band. Ben Myrol accordion, Frances Myrol vocals, Rick Myrol guitar and vocals, Myles Myrol guitar and vocals and Keith Myrol Drums and Vocals. Rick, Keith, and Myles often switched instruments.

The Myrol Brothers. Rick Myrol guitar and vocals, Keith Myrol guitar and vocals, Myles Myrol bass and vocals, and for about 35 years Kent Cadman originally from Saskatoon on drums and vocals.

Six decades is a long time and a lot of music.

First, thanks to the Legion for always keeping the hall ready to go. Way back in the beginning, thanks for trusting a bunch of teenagers with your hall.

Thanks to all who share those memories with us. It’s been great fun.

It’s been our honor.
