OUTLOOK - For local kids looking to realize those hoop dreams, last weekend may have provided a good start.
The Jr. NBA program offered by Saskatchewan Youth Basketball held a weekend camp in Outlook on Saturday, April 13 & 14, with the courts at LCBI High School, Outlook High School, and Outlook Elementary School split in half and used all day by more than 40 kids who wanted to take part.
Coordinated locally by Bryan Akre, the weekend's events saw kids take to the sport of basketball with a lot of enthusiasm, which may prove beneficial as they age and local high schools are on the lookout for more talent on the courts.
The Jr. NBA program is designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game in its participants, while at the same time supporting community-based recreational groups and schools to influence youth through basketball. The goal of the program is to allow kids to maximize their potential while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a means to build character, discipline and self-esteem.
The Saskatchewan Youth Basketball league is divided into seven areas of the province, including Outlook, Melfort, Parkland, North Battleford, Swift Current, Weyburn, and Yorkton.
