LAKE DIEFENBAKER - Combined funding from Ottawa, the province, and the recipients is adding strength to a number of infrastructure projects around Saskatchewan.

One of those projects is in the Lake Diefenbaker area.

The provincial government announced on January 25 that it was partnering with the federal government on a number of investments in Saskatchewan infrastructure projects in order to strengthen communities.

Joint funding coming through the Green Infrastructure, Community, Culture and Recreation, and the Rural and Northern Communities streams of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program will support 25 infrastructure projects across the province.

The federal government is investing more than $10.8 million towards these projects, with Saskatchewan contributing more than $8.9 million. Recipients, meanwhile, are contributing more than $7.6 million and are also responsible for any additional costs.

“Our government is investing nearly $9 million in provincial funding toward these 25 vital infrastructure projects," said Government Relations Minister Don McMorris in a media release. "These investments will increase Indigenous cultural learning opportunities, provide recreational opportunities, improve our rural transportation system and support our environment. We will continue to build a stronger Saskatchewan that is home to a strong economy, strong communities and strong families.”

One of the recipients of this funding is the RM of Loreburn, or more specifically, the Sunset Beach development at Lake Diefenbaker. Their project will see the construction of a recreational trail connecting two existing municipal reserves within the RM. The federal government will provide $41,920, the province will provide $34,930, and the development itself will provide $27,950 towards the financial commitment of the project.
