Elbow running, walking event supports ALS research

A big amount was raised from a special fundraising event held in the lakeside community.

ELBOW - Folks down in the resort village of Elbow woke up early on Saturday, June 17 and got prepared to go for a brisk walk in the cooler rainy weather.

That's because it was all in support of the ALS Society of Saskatchewan, and the dozens of people taking part in the Line 19 Move to Cure ALS Run & Walk didn't seem to mind the drizzly weather at all.

The 5 km route took them around Elbow and back to the rodeo grounds, where a BBQ meal was waiting.

June Evans, spearheading the event, said that while a final confirmed total of financial contributions wasn't known at press time, she was able to tell The Outlook that the number had reached to more than $20,000, making for an incredible level of support and generosity.

"We're very pleased and thankful for all of the support and donations!" said June. "See you next year, this is going to be an annual event."

Mugs Coffee House in Elbow also contributed to the cause, as half of their sales from Saturday will be donated to the ALS Society, and the coffee shop announced that they'll be donating $1000 to the cause.
