Cabri wins Under-15 provincial hockey title over Outlook

Bulldogs grab hold of provincial 'C' championship in front of a loud, raucous crowd.

OUTLOOK - The town of Outlook was hopping with all sorts of rink activity over the last weekend in March.

On Sunday afternoon, March 30, the Cabri Bulldogs came to the Jim Kook Rec Plex to play the Outlook Ice Hawks in the provincial championship final of the Under-15 'C' division.

The Bulldogs had defeated Langenburg and Eston to enter the championship series, while the Ice Hawks had defeated Porcupine Plain and Maidstone.

The Cabri and Outlook rosters had met previously a week earlier in Cabri for Game One, which ended in a tie at 6-6, meaning the winning squad of this rematch would take the coveted provincial title.

The rink was packed with spectators who made their support known for one team or the other and watched as the action unfolded.

Although the action throughout the first and second periods was watched with intensity by both the coaches and the crowd, the story of this game played itself out in the third period, which saw Outlook tie things up at a goal apiece. However, the Bulldogs rebounded and once they saw that proverbial bone of a provincial trophy looming, they took hold and never let go as they managed to notch themselves ahead on the scoreboard with two more goals before the clock wound down.

In the end, Cabri were the victors of the game and the U15 'C' Provincial Championship at a score of 3-1 over Outlook.

However, the Outlook roster didn't exit the 2024/25 hockey season without a title of their own, as the Hawks defeated Kindersley to capture the Hi-Way 14 League championship on March 25, besting them in a two-game series at scores of 7-5 and 5-4, respectively.

The U15 Outlook Ice Hawks team this year was comprised of players Samuel Bull, Sawyer Williams, Aidan Lee, Mercer Thompson, Parker Pederson, Cason Skaalid, Corbin Dillin, Sterling Williams, Nash Dolan, Landon Sincennes, Landon Lepage, Liam Wagner, Tyce Grywacheski, Tucker Bull, and Liam King.

The province-winning Cabri Bulldogs U15 team was comprised of players Lincoln Green, Olsen Odermatt, Davon Watson, Tucker Paul, Birk Petersen, Reece Ehrman, Brock Shaw, Dylan Bye, Meyer Sawyer, Nixon Dirk, Ryden Getz, Cash Benallack, Oakley Morin, Jordan Armstrong, Connor Linder, Ethan Poirier, Cole Anderson, Kyle Guckert.

In related news, the Under-13 Provincial 'C' Championship was also decided this weekend and it also involved another Outlook team, with the U13 Ice Hawks making the long road trip to Wawota to play the Flyers in Game Two on Saturday, March 29. Try as they did, a win just wasn't in the cards for Outlook as the Flyers eclipsed them at a score of 8-3 to take the U13 title, having also won Game One on March 22 at a 4-1 score.
