Changing mind on fate of Roughrider coaches

Well, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to the Grey Cup for the third time in four years. Still want to change the coaching staff? I admit to being one of those guys, but now that I'm armed with more information I have to change my mind.

Well, the Saskatchewan Roughriders are going to the Grey Cup for the third time in four years. Still want to change the coaching staff? I admit to being one of those guys, but now that I'm armed with more information I have to change my mind. Give Ken Miller a contract for life and you may as well extend Jim Daley while you are at it.It has to be a coaching technique to have your return guy drop a punt and then get the ball back in the end zone on a loose ball recovery.

Here's a stat that is hard to fathom: The Riders have been to three of the last four Grey Cups, but won only two of the previous 96.In an eight-team league, I find it difficult to believe you could purposely screw up a franchise so bad for so long.

Colin Campbell, the NHL's main man in charge of discipline, got caught playing favorites to son Gregory in a string of emails sent to then director of officiating Stephen Walkom. Campbell says it's much ado about nothing; and I think he's right. If you really want to go after someone playing favorites, look into how Gregory Campbell plays in the NHL at all. To me, there are other guys just as worthy of a spot in hockey's top league. It's also interesting that Colin Campbell didn't get proactive on head shots until Gregory made it to the NHL.

In the United States, the Transportation Security Administration is under attack after a couple of high profile incidents. In one case, they made a young boy strip down before he got on an airplane. In another situation, a 61-year-old man was left to urinate on himself after they violated him to the point that the bladder cancer survivor's medical equipment malfunctioned. As I read the story, I had a thought that was actually a quote towards the end of the story. "If this country is going to sacrifice treating people like human beings in the name of safety, then we have already lost the war."

When I worked at the radio station, I was asked a few times on the cost of a thirty second ad. Without revealing what the price is, I can tell you it was recently made public that one sixty second spot on 680 NEWS in Toronto will touch you up $1826.

An American web security company has come out with a gadget designed to prevent you from being an idiot and posting things you would later regret on your Facebook and Twitter pages. It's called Social Media Sobriety Test and it requires users to go through a series of online coordination tests before you are allowed to access the service (Facebook, Twitter, etc.).One of the tests requires you to follow a finger drifting around the screen with your mouse.Gmail actually has a tool similar to this that prevents users from sending drunken emails.

When Phil DeVos was the mayor of Yorkton, people often joked to me that I was lucky to live near him because Circlebrooke Drive was on his way home from work and, therefore, it was one of the first streets to get ploughed after a winter storm. Well, those people who joked with me may be right as it seems Circlebrooke has been knocked down a few notches on the snow plough schedule. Having said that, if you are going to complain about snow removal in Yorkton, I would invite you to visit a city like Dauphin or Brandon and you will have a whole new appreciation for the folks that do the job in Yorkton.

I hate seeing heart ache in our community. It's important for all of us to realize what a miracle it is when we all get out of bed at the same house as a family, split up after breakfast to do our own separate tasks such as go to work, go to school, etc. and then all come together again at the end of the day for supper, extra curricular activities, and bed time again all as a family. It sounds simple, and it's a routine we all have. But, that doesn't make it any less of a miracle each and every day.

Nice person mentions this week to Megan Bieber, Garry Gawryliuk, Martin Smith, and Dr. Fourie.
