Athletes from the Yorkton Regional High School and Sacred Heart High School took part in the East Central District Track and Field meet on May 28-29 at Kinsmen Century Field.
Both schools were well represented at the track meet with strong showings.
A pair of YRHS track stars put their names in the record books: Kelie Onda-Inglis broke the midget girls' 800m record and Jaden Porte broke the junior boys' 800m record.
"Kellie and Jaden's record-breaking 800m races were inspiring, gutsy running leading to the glory of a District record," said Duane Miller, coach of the YRHS track club. "Obviously, they both surpassed people who had distinguished themselves in track and field. Their performance is a reflection of their disciplined training throughout the year, beginning with the Cross-Country season and continuing with the Legion Track Club throughout the winter. They worked very hard to achieve the form required to break a record."
"As a group, we have a great mix of seasoned veterans, year-round athletes and new blood with our Grade nines," Miller went on to add. "Also, our success throughout the various track and field disciplines from the races, to the throwing and jumping events, speaks to the balance that we have this year."
