You probably really had to see it as it happened that night to believe it.
Things like this don't happen every day. Especially not in Yorkton.
Over the past several weeks or so the Cardinals have been stepping up to the plate and beating the crap out of the baseballalmost on a nightly basis.
For most people who know, or at least, who think they know, they'll tell you that the team has already been eliminated from playoff contention.
They are probably right.
A quick look at the standings of the Western Major Baseball League shows that the Cards are still at the bottom of the pack, at least in the WMBL East Division.
They will likely finish the season right there too, but it's actually getting fun watching them play every night they're here.
On Sunday night, they weren't supposed to play a game but they did and they won it. Handily too, over the Millionaires.
Going back to July 17 was when they hosted the Swift Current INdians in a doubleheader at Jubilee Park.
Most of the time for this team, getting one win is hard enough. The hitters struggle and in turn there's not any offence.
Maybe Mr. Sobkow's been spiking the Gatorade bottles.
The previous four dates prior to that were all losses; the last game before the INdians doubleheader was an embarrassing loss to the tune of 15-10 and the game before that (played at Moose Jaw) was to a tune of 10-1.
Then all of the sudden the whole team wakes up, cranks out a bunch of hits, one was by Torey Bell that not too many Cards fans will ever forget, and they turn up a victory to a tune of 11-3.
For any baseball fan not too familiar with the sport, Bell hit a grand slam. There hasn't been a grand slam hit by a Cardinal player in at least four years and probably as many as 20 years. This team has a hard enough time hitting with nobody on base, let alone runners on all three bags, and now we see this?
Yorkton went on to finish the game with almost twice as many runs crossing the plate as they had hits (11/6).
They had only two errors all game long while Swift Current had four errors and scored four runs on nine hits.
So with an 11-4 win, it was time to do it all over again so they did and they won (again) this time they did it on the road at Saskatoon.
Things fell slightly back to usual over the weekend when the Medicine Hat Mavericks came to town for back to back games played on Saturday and Sunday.
Yorkton managed seven runs all night long and lost both. They then entertained the Melville Millionaires and turned up an 8-3 win.
Five of those runs came in the same inning.
There are three more games scheduled for Jubilee Park this season (Monday's game with Saskatoon provided it didn't rain, July 26 and 28).
