Kade Johnson of Yorkton is the typical 11-year-old kid. Only difference between him and the others is he's closing in on some huge accomplishments in the sport of golf.

Since last reported in Yorkton This Week, Johnson had a fairly good outing when he ventured off to Saskatoon where he didn't necessarily place highly but was proud of his accomplishment because he was the youngest kid on the circuit in Saskatoon.

More recently, he competed in provincials held last month in Prince Albert. He placed second. In his age category, there were only four competitors. He beat the guy in third place by five strokes, he said.

Over the course of the four-day event, his scores were 98 on the Tuesday, 89 on the Wednesday, 89 on Thursday and topped off the event with a 90 on Friday.

In the recently passed Junior Open circuit, in which young golfers competed on each of the three local golf clubs, Johnson scored an 84 (Deer Park's course), and an 81 at York Lake's. He said the scores weren't available from Good Spirit and wasn't too sure how he thought he might have finished. But he did know where he thinks he played his best.

"York Lake for sure!," adding that he "putted well and had nine pars."

He also noted that he put up some bogeys but didn't seem the least bit concerned.

At Deer Park's course, Johnson had eight pars; three on the front nine and then had three in a row on the back nine and the last came on the last hole of the course.

"It's pretty high right now," he said of his own confidence. "I'm in first overall by a lot of points," he claimed. He said he has three more tournaments to compete in this season and if all goes well, added he has a chance for the Order of Merit.

Among his final visits will be stops at Foam Lake, Crystal Lake and Regina.
