The Yorkton United Under-14 girls soccer team claimed a silver medal at the 2013 Saskatchewan Outdoor Soccer Provincial Championships in Moose Jaw on June 28-30.

Yorkton's first game of the tournament was against Saskatoon Eastside. Sara Novakowski, Allison Berge and Darrian Desjarlais scored one apiece to lead Yorkton to a 3-1 victory.

The girls' second game of the round robin was against a much tougher opponent, the hometown Moose Jaw squad. It was a close match, but Jordin Holinaty's lone goal and Marley Kosedy's solid play in net led to a 1-0 Yorkton win.

In the final round robin game against the Battlefords, Taryn Kustra led the Yorkton offense with four goals to a commanding 5-0 victory. This win placed Yorkton on top of their pool, setting up a semifinal matchup against Swift Current.

Kustra kept her hot streak alive against Swift Current. After regular time didn't solve anything, she scored the game-winning goal in overtime. Marley Kosedy earned the shutout in net for Yorkton.

In the final, Yorkton measured up against an elite Regina Unidad club. This match saw Unidad jump out to a 2-0 lead, but the Yorkton girls continued to show their heart and desire with Allison Berge bending the twine late in the second half to draw within one. Despite Yorkton pressing for the equalizer, Regina ran away with the gold medal in the 2-1 final.

"This was a great accomplishment for this young team that was playing their first games together comprised of nearly half U14 and half U12 girls playing in the U14 division, with many of the girls playing in a Provincial Championship for the first time," said Allan Varjassy. "The skill level and character displayed by the team was beyond the expectations of the coaches and parents as they played like champions all weekend long."

"The club and girls would like to thank their jersey sponsor Remax Blue Chip Realty - Evan Johnson."
