The Joe Yacyshyn rink of Preeceville topped the Preeceville Seniors Bonspiel held the week of January 9-12. Team members included, Nick Bodnar, Darrell Laughren and Mary Pasiechnik.

There was a total of 15 entries attracted to the bonspiel.

The Brandon draw format was used. This is where the teams received points for each win and tie plus points for every end scored.

The Yacyshyn rink was credited with scoring a total of 44 points in the bonspiel.

The Laird Gervais team of Crystal Lake placed second with 42 points. Team members on the Gervais rink were Janis Gervais, Darryl Stevenson and Vicki Stevenson.

The Bob Lumley rink of Norquay placed third with 40 points. The team was last year's champions and team members were Donna Lumley, Ron Perepeluk and James Perepeluk.

The Ron Hoehn rink of Canora, with team members Arnold Makowski, Bill Gulka and Bob Roll, placed fourth with 38 points.

There was a three-way tie for fourth place. The teams were skipped by Ralph Ager, Don Kurulak and Dale Zubko.

Other participating teams were skipped by Eugene Gulka, Bob Lebo, Lou Roste, Art Boyd, Bill Foreman, Ted Kreklewetz, Ian Peterson and Vern Schlick.

The 15 teams entered included three teams from Canora, two teams from Norquay and one team from each of Sturgis, Endeavour and Crystal Lake as well as seven local teams.

"This marked the first time that there were that many local teams involved in the seniors bonspiel," said Yacyshyn.

Although the local curlers were involved in the bonspiel, the following individuals headed various committees: Roy Fairburn and Yacyshyn took entries; Yacyshyn was the drawmaster; Dennis Osatiuk was in charge of advertising, collecting fees and distributing the cash prizes; Mary Pasiechnik and Stella Gulka were responsible for operating the kitchen, and Sheldon Luciw was the caretaker.

Bob Lebo looked after the organizing of the 50/50 draw and the draw-to-the-button competition which Art Boyd won. Gail Peterson claimed the second prize for the competition.

In the draw-to-the-button team competition, the Bob Lebo rink won first, the Bob Lumley rink won second, the Laird Gervais rink placed third and the Dale Zubko rink placed fourth.

Supporters contributed pots of soup and pies and club members contributed in other ways, Yacyshyn said.

The club has had an increase in participants and more are always welcomed for league play and bonspiels, Yacyshyn said.
