Despite a pair of blocked field goal attempts, the Yorkton Pee Wee Gridders football club was bounced in their first home game of the 2012 Regina Minor Football League (RMFL) action Sunday afternoon.
The game marked the start of the new season as well as the debut of head coach Noel Budz, who takes over from last year's head honcho, Jason Farrell.
They played host to the Regina Riders.
Regina went on to a 44-6 win.
"It's all about developmental," says Budz, coming off his head coaching debut, admitted that the visiting Riders were able to hit the gas pedal before anyone in orange knew what had hit them, including scoring a pair of majors before the game was 12 minutes old. Regina added two more majors in the second quarter.
"You know what? says Budz, postgame. "They started quick on us. They had no trouble last week, either," he adds.
He said it's not fun taking a loss like this here.
"This is our home," he said, adding that the lone bright spot was probably the second half.
"There's lots of challenges here," he said. Yorkton's next game is at Weyburn this weekend.
