The Yorkton & District United Way Mixed Golf Classic was held Friday at the Canora Golf Course.

Maryann Federko, the current president of the Yorkton District Labour Council and board member of the United Way, said that with the summer (and now the summer weather) coming to an end, it is time to start planning for the fall and getting things back up and running for the local United Way group.

"We're trying to rebuild it," she said during a break in the golf action in Canora.

The event was a Texas Scramble event that included 18 holes of play, lunch, a steak supper and prizes.

Players could register either as a team or an as individual however, she said she wasn't thrilled with the numbers for the play.

"We're trying to get people involved," she told Yorkton This Week. Three teams came out to play.

"Right now, we're geared into the fall campaign. Basically trying to get people interested in the United Way.

Federko said her eyes are now set on the fall campaign for the United Way, which includes the residential blitz.

Federko said they will go door to door raising awareness about their work and hopefully collect some donations.

"We're trying to resurrect the United Way in Yorkton."

The good thing about the golf in at the Canora club on Friday is that the help from local businesses was really good.

"The sponsorship was great."

Federko wanted to mention that some of the long list included Crestview Ambulance of Yorkton for their hole sponsorship.

There was $10,000 up for grabs on hole 5, no winners were known as of press time.

Western Financial Group was the Hole in One sponsor.

Other sponsors included: the Cornerstone Credit Union, the Yorkton Co-op, Louck's Pharmacy, Christie's Funeral Home, DR Auto Extras, Dr. Bode and Dr. Fuchs and Mark's Work Wearhouse, Gerein Appraisers Inc., Leland Campbell LLP, Gord Webster - Scotia McLeod.

Federko also thanks Canora Golf Course manager Stan Gulutzan and his staff for hosting this year's event.
