On June 16, Yorkton United Chelsea U12 played its last away games this season in Regina against the REU Inferno.
It was a difficult start and the Inferno scored two minutes into the game. By the half, the score was 4-1, with Matthew Cochrane scoring the lone goal for Chelsea. Andy Wyatt, Chelsea's coach, states, "It was one of our better games offensively. We had a few breakaways and hit the post. Our passing game was excellent and our young players began to understand how to play as a team."
Unfortunately, a goal at the beginning of the second half and some defensive breakdowns put the game out of reach. "We definitely didn't outplay REU and they deserved the win, but the score doesn't reflect how competitive the game was," said Wyatt.
Later that afternoon, Chelsea returned to Leibel Field in Regina to play UCT. Chelsea could not keep their offensive momentum from the morning game and came out flat. The score was 1-0 at the half. UCT kept the ball in Chelsea's end for the first 15 minutes of the second half. Carson Sveinbjornson made some exceptional saves to keep the game close. After UCT scored their second goal on a questionable penalty shot, Yorkton United Chelsea woke up and started to carry the play, with Mandziuk scoring the only goal. Chelsea kept the pressure on, but unfortunately could not break down the defense. The final score was 2-1.
"It was a difficult game for us. The second game of the day in Regina always seems to be difficult and this was no exception," said Wyatt.
