Yorkton United Chelsea U12 boys grabbed two important wins on Sunday at Parkland Mall Field against Regina's Boca Juniors and Regina's AC Pumas.
The game against the Boca Juniors saw Yorkton coming out powerfully with a decisive 13-1 victory. Nick Fetsch scored five goals; Nolan Maier potted a hat trick; Jordin Rusnack, Jaxon McLeod, Jarius Pellatt, and Matthew Cochrane scored one each.
The contest was important on two levels. First of all, it helps Yorkton climb the Regina league standings as they were tied for second place in the league based on wins and losses, but they sit in third based on the goal differentials. A 12-point goal differential in this game pushed Yorkton to second place. The Boca game was also important because it was a first round playoff game for the Regina Soccer Association Cup, which is separate from the regular-season standings. Yorkton moves on to the second round of playoffs this Monday (July 1) at Regina's Liebel Field where four teams play off for the right to play for the RSA Cup on July 14.
Sunday afternoon's game was a much closer game as Yorkton Chelsea edged Regina AC Pumas for a 6-5 win. The last time these two teams met was at the beginning of the season with Yorkton winning 5-4. Jordin Rusnack scored two goals; Matthew Cochrane, Nolan Maier, Thomas Djagowez and Jaxon McLeod potted one apiece.
