The Yorkton United Football Club U12 Boys Division 1 went undefeated this past weekend with two road wins and a victory at home.
On Saturday morning, Regina REU Chelsea came to Yorkton. The YUFC's 20 shots on goal vs. Regina's 12 resulted in a 4-2 victory for the home team. Jordin Rusnack marked a hat trick before the first half ended. Jaxon McLeod registered the fourth goal six minutes into the second half. Regina then answered with two goals before the game ended.
The boys were scheduled to play the Regina U14 Division 1 Girls in the afternoon, but the girls' team was not able to field enough players, so they forfeited the match resulting in a 5-0 score tallied in favour of Yorkton.
Yorkton traveled to Regina on Sunday to meet the Moose Jaw United Boys, who also play in the Regina City League, for a double-header. The morning match was played at Usher Field. Matthew Cochrane scored the first point 24 minutes in while Jordin Rusnack marked Yorkton's second goal at the 36-minute mark. Yorkton held Moose Jaw scoreless nearly until the end until when they scored from a free kick in extra time to make the score 2-1 for Yorkton.
With increased passing and high energy, YUFC Chelsea met Moose Jaw again in the afternoon at Liebel Field. Nick Fetsch had the opening and closing goals for Yorkton, while Zach Wasylyshen, Jordin Rusnack and Nolan Maier each scored as well. In the end, Yorkton won the second match against Moose Jaw 5-2.
Coach Michael Jakubiec was very pleased with Yorkton's level of play this weekend. They have been working hard in practices over the past couple of weeks on passing, defending, and increasing the number of shots on goal. The boys' hard work and Jakubiec's focus has shown up in the team's statistics and, this weekend, on the score board. While the wins are a bonus, Jakubiec tells his players that he is 'really happy that they are developing as individual players and as a team.'
Next Sunday, Yorkton hosts another two Regina teams on the Parkland Mall fields at 11am and 4pm.
