With the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Christmas break just past, it's a good time to look at the Yorkton Terriers by the numbers so far.
The Terriers entered the league holiday break, sporting a 24-8-0-1 record for 49 points, best in the Sherwood Conference by four points over Notre Dame.
Yorkton's .742 winning percentage was best in the league, with Notre Dame second at .662, and the North Division leading Humboldt Broncos third at .656.
The Terriers 24 wins are also a league best.
In the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Top-20 rankings the Terriers sat fourth as of Dec. 17, behind top-rated Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The Minnesota Wilderness of the Superior International Junior Hockey League was second with the Trenton Golden Hawks on the Ontario Junior Hockey League third.
Up to the break the Terriers has scored 129 goals through 33 games, again best in the league, over Flin Flon with 120, and Melville with 117.
While leading in team scoring, the top individual scorer on the Terriers ranks only 14th best in the league. Nathan Murray has 10 goals and 32 points.
Patrick Martens has 16 goals to lead Yorkton, and a two-way share of sixth overall.
Tyler Giebel and Jeremy Johnson both have 15 goals for a share of 10th spot in the SJHL.
Murray's 22 assists put him in a three-way tie for fourth in that category.
Giebel has six powerplay markers ranking third in the league in a five-way tie.
Zak Majkowski is among seven SJHL players with two short-handed goals each.
Yorkton has allowed only 87 goals, tied with Flin Flon for second best
in the league behind Humboldt who have allowed just 72.
Kale Thomson has appeared in the Terrier net in 20 games this season, with 14 wins, 2.48 goals against average (GAA), and a .917 save percentage. The GAA is sixth best in the league, as is his save percentage.
Thomson's 14 wins is second best in the league, along with two other netminders. The trio is one win back of Hound Ty Reichenbach and Bronco Matt Hrynkiw.
The Terriers have also accumulated 659 penalty minutes.
