Tebowmania in for a test this weekend vs. Patriots

When the Denver Broncos decided to add another quarterback to their roster last April at the entry draft, it probably meant bad news for Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn.

When the Denver Broncos decided to add another quarterback to their roster last April at the entry draft, it probably meant bad news for Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn.

The two QBs at the time were going to be in competition with each other for the role of Denver Broncos starting quarterback.

Fast forward to the present day. Nobody likely would have seen it coming when Orton (recently released from the team) and Quinn (somewhat permanently demoted to clipboard holder), would neither be in position of starting quarterback on a team that hasn't had much success in that position in years.

Now, spend two minutes clicking on any www.espn.com link under NFL, and count how many times you see the word 'Tebowmania'.

The second-year QB has been on fire for the past couple of months. He has been doing just about everything right. Tebow has been playing so well in terms of winning football games that he's been getting some praise already from the NFL's elite. That including Patriots QB Tom Brady.

The second-year quarterback, out of the University of Florida Gators, has apparently overcome some of what his critics have suggested would keep him out of a starting role in the NFL.

Each of the past three weeks, the former Gator has actually put up some impressive numbers as a starter.

This past weekend, he was 21-40 with 236 yards and a touchdown pass. In week 13, last week, he went 10-15 with 202 yards passing and two touchdowns. And at San Diego in week 12, Tebow went 9-18 with 143 yards and another touchdown pass.

It is getting kind of hard to argue with some hotshot 24-year-old who has been winning in the NFL.

Albeit some of these wins have been anything but pretty, he's already put up 1290 yards with 11 touchdown passes and two interceptions. His QB rating is currently at 83.9 per cent.

Bye-bye Brady Quinn?

Media in Denver are already starting to ask if Tebow will be declared the franchise QB. As far as they know, that would come down to either Tebow or Quinn.

Denver currently holds a one-game lead on the Oakland Raiders for top spot in the AFC West Division. San Diego trails Denver by two victories.

Perhaps Denver's toughest opponent, at least this month, will be their week 15 date, the New England Patriots.

In last weekend's game, Tebow apparently played like a seasoned veteran in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter apparently, delivering Denver their ninth win, 13-10. Tebowmania appears to have blown over the continent, but he's getting no love from some of his opposition. The starter who took the Gators to college football's championship game drew some interesting comment from Chicago Bears' Brian Urlacher.

"He's a good running backHe does a good job for them," Urlacher told the media following the Tebow-engineered 13-point, come-from-behind win on Sunday.

Next up, the 10-3 New England Patriots.
