A promising home opener for the Supers on May 14 versus the three time defending 鶹ýAVeast Senior Baseball League (SESBL) champion Yorkton Yankees turned sour late as a 5-3 Supers lead became a lacklustre 11-5 defeat in what seemed like the blink of an eye, according to Greg Andreychuk, player/manager.

Offensively the Supers took advantage of six Yankee errors to score five runs off Logan Calanchie, a perennial top pitcher in the SESBL.

The Supers were trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the second inning, but Derek Palagian and Ian Quewezance got the home team started with back-to-back singles. Three Yankee errors eventually led to a 3-2 lead for the Supers after two innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Sean Kolodziejski led off with a single followed by a two-run home run by Kholton Shewchuk to propel the Supers into a 5-3 lead.

“Unfortunately the lead was short-lived as the Yankees scored four runs in both the top of the sixth and seventh to put the game away,” said Andreychuk.

Logan Parachoniak started the game on the mound for the Supers. He did not give up a hit over three-and-two-thirds innings and registered four strikeouts. But he allowed seven walks and hit two batters, which led to giving up two earned runs. He was relieved by brother Colby Parachoniak, who struck out two batters, gave up three walks and allowed five runs on four hits over two-and-a-third innings to eventually take the loss. Kholton Shewchuk pitched the top of the seventh inning and gave up four runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Andreychuk said one of the few bright spots in the game was the Supers defence, which committed only one error on the evening.

Two newcomers, Ian Quewezance of Kamsack and Jorden Cherewyk of Yorkton, formerly of Norquay, were in the starting lineup and played their first games for the Supers. Quewezance was the shortstop and Cherewyk patrolled centre field.
