Shae Peterson of Sturgis was one of three Sturgis lacrosse players who were invited to be part of the Yorkton Fighting Pikes lacrosse team in the lacrosse provincials held in Prince Albert on July 8 and 9.

Jacob Danyluk of Canora and Toby Olynyk of Buchanan joined Peterson in the Bantam age category tournament.

"It was an excellent learning experience for the players," said Kristen Peterson, a parent. "They have never played box lacrosse before and only had a few practices. The players have only played field lacrosse.â€

Box lacrosse, also known as indoor lacrosse and sometimes shortened to boxla or simply box, is an indoor version of lacrosse played mostly in North America.

There were seven teams entered in provincials two Saskatoon teams and teams from each of Swift Current, Regina, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Yorkton. Coaches for Yorkton, who had selected the players for the Yorkton team, were Adam and Ryan Stewart who were formerly from the Sturgis area, and Scott Marianchuk of Yorkton.
