      The Sturgis Trojans lacrosse team in the U-16 category brought home the gold medal and provincial title in the provincial championships held in Saskatoon on June 17.            The three teams participating included Sturgis, Yorkton and Saskatoon.
           Sturgis faced off against Yorkton in the first match-up. Shae Peterson led the way with scoring six goals in a 13-3 win. Jake Huska added two more goals, followed by Zane Bayer, Seth Rayner and Carter Masley.
           In the second game of the championships, Sturgis took on Saskatoon.
The Trojans were up against the defending champions for Saskatoon, said Craig Folk, coach. Sturgis was able to pull out a win with the final score of 8-7.
“We finished the round robin with a 2 to 0 record," he said.
Jake Huska and Keishaun Gervais led the team with three goals each, followed by Zane Bayer and Seth Rayner.
           Saskatoon defeated Yorkton in the semi-finals to get to the gold medal game against Sturgis.
           "The Trojans played a strong and determined game," said Folk. "They overcame a two-goal deficit to win the gold medal game with an 11-to-7 win.
“The win brought the provincial title back to Sturgis," said Folk.
Keishaun Gervais dominated by scoring eight of the 11 goals. Jake Huska scored two goals and Seth Rayner concluded the scoring.
           Players who received all-star awards were: Durban Hleboff, goal-tender; William Hauber, defence; Seth Rayner, attack, and Jake Huska, mid-fielder. Keishaun Gervais was named the provincial tournament’s most valuable player.
